Tools: health insurance calculators for Germany

Three free calculators, in English, without sign-up and without health questions. They run in your browser; nothing is sent unless you ask for your result by email.

Which calculator answers your question?

Want to see what public and private insurance would cost you – including your employer's share, your family and ten years of price increases? Use the public vs private cost calculator. Not sure whether you may switch at all? The income threshold checker compares your salary with the 2026 and 2027 thresholds and shows the earliest date you could go private. Planning to leave Germany? The leaving-Germany planner shows whether to cancel, pause or keep your policy.

All 2027 values are based on the Federal Cabinet decision of 7 October 2026 (Bundesrat approval pending) and an assumed average additional contribution of 2.9% (to be announced by 1 November 2026). Results are guide values, not an offer. Your personal answer, including an exit plan, comes from the free 60-second decider.

Frequently asked questions

Are the calculators free and anonymous?

Yes. They run in your browser without sign-up. Only if you ask for your result by email do we receive your inputs and results.

Why are the 2027 numbers marked as draft?

Because the 2027 thresholds still need the approval of the Bundesrat (expected in November 2026), and the average additional contribution for 2027 will only be announced by 1 November 2026. We update the calculators as soon as the values are final.

Do I need to enter health information?

No. The calculators only use status, salary, age, family and your plans. A real private quote depends on health questions in the insurer's application – we never ask those online.

Don't choose on today's price alone.
